Tonight is a big game for the Boston Bruins. Here’s why:
1). The new guys:
Brian Rolston and Mike Mottau are expected to be in the lineup tonight. I’m excited to see what these guys can do. We all know Brain Rolston was nasty in like 2004, but it’s 2012 now. I am interested to see how much he will play. Rolston has a blast of a shot and can really help on the powerplay, but you gotta wonder how much is left in the tank? You have to think he’s motivated to come to a cup contender after getting out of that hell hole on Long Island. Mottau is a solid d-man. He doesn’t provide much in the way of offense, but he’s a left-handed shot, and can play a physical game. I read a quote that Mottau said, something along the lines of, “I would take a puck in the teeth for a chance to be on the Bruins.” Well smile big Mike, here’s your chance.
2). How will the B’s respond?
Kyle Turris better watch his back. There was no suspension from the league, it could be one long night for this nerd. Chris Neil fought Chara, but still you have to expect that something will pop off with him. I was at the last Senators game. Thornton and Neil fought and that is what I am predicting tonight. Thornton is back in the lineup and just at the right time. This game is going to be intense and physical.
3). Playoff picture:
The Bruins are 3 points ahead of Ottawa right now in the Northeast Division. They need to beat these guys and beat them good. Ottawa is a scrappy team that could really pressure the Bruins down the stretch. A win here goes a long way into hopefully capturing the Division.
4). Thomas and Rask:
Both goalies survived the deadline. Hopefully, whoever is in net, can let all the anxiety and emotion go that may have been there before the deadline. These guys can breathe a sigh of relief now and that should translate to stronger, more confident play.
