Danny Ainge looked like a full fledged genius last night when the short handed Celtics embarrassed the Orlando Magic in Glen Big Baby Davis’ homecoming. The piece that Ainge traded for in Bass, was a beast as he had 19 points and 8 rebounds to Big Baby’s 6 points, 11 rebounds. Bass was often seen battling for the ball with the former fat useless Celtic Glen Davis, and often won.
If there was ever a clash of complete opposites, it was last night with Davis and Bass. Bass, the much more physically imposing player, both visually and athletically against Glen Davis, the depressed lost fading dumpy player. And Bass took advantage every chance he had of Baby. Most notably on a play in the third quarter as Bass hounded Davis after a rebound until Davis helplessly fell out of bounds while coughing up the ball to Avery Bradley which resulted in a two handed slam from Bass.
At one point you almost felt bad for Davis. The guy’s team was getting blown out by 30 points by Avery Bradley and Sasha Pavlovic and it was clear we were witnessing the beginning of Davis’ career slowly ending. He looked as unmotivated and helpless as you could think of, and I don’t think anyone in the building missed him. Even though there was a forced “Thank You Baby” montage video that played before the game.
