Brandon Bass has had no problem transitioning from Orlando to Boston this season. He is averaging 14.0 points and 6.6 rebounds per game coming off the bench. Besides Greg Stiemsma, Bass is by far the most encouraging player to watch. But his counter piece that he was traded for isn’t doing so hot. The all familiar Glen Davis is doing as well as he was when he left the Celtics. Bad. Davis finished off the regular season last year with inconsistent play and idiotic antics that carried over into the playoffs. Davis was as useful as a cleanex in the shower during the 2011 postseason.
But Davis playing like dog piss this year makes Ainge look fantastic. Not only did Ainge ship out a deranged overweight Baby, but he brought in a tougher more athletic player who won’t sob on the sideline to replace him.
Davis is averaging 6.9 points and 3.9 rebounds per game while shooting only 33.3 percent. Davis’ head coach Stan Van Gundy thinks the problem may be between the ears, which wouldn’t be shocking.
“He’s not playing well, and I’m not sure his mind’s on the right things right now,” Van Gundy said. “What we need him to do is defend, which he has done pretty well, rebound better than he’s rebounding and move the ball and set screens.”
It’s tough to sit here and be happy that Davis is failing in Orlando because he did have some productive seasons for the Celtics. But since I’ve never met Glen and he will probably rake in more money this year then I will in five lifetimes, I will be happy to see him eff up. Screw him. Screw him and that patchy ass beard he has going on. Bass would never grow something like that.
