Jason Taylor’s teary farewell speech was one minute too long (video)

Was this coach the most interim head coach you have ever seen? I could have made that speech. Telling people to give themselves multiple rounds of applause is the most half hearted, lazy way of delivering a speech to a room. Just warming up the crowd though for Taylor.

It’s never easy when you’re about to make a serious, emotional speech and some guy from the crowd yells out “I see a tear!” It just destroys the moment. Especially when Taylor was actually crying before he started talking. Regardless though, someone should stepped in and helped the guy finish. If this was cut down 30-60 seconds, it would have been a decent farewell speech. But when you see guys in the background shifting their weight from one foot to another non stop, it’s time to wrap it up. Where was Larry David when you needed him…

Taylor spent 13 of his 15 seasons with the Dolphins. He also played for the Jets and Redskins in recent years. His 139.5 career sacks, which ranks sixth all time, made him the NFL’s active leader this season.
