The light Patriots secondary suffered an unusual amount of injuries yesterday. Pat Chung missed the majority of the game, rookie Ras-I Dowling left the game and did not return due to injury, and Kyle Arrington got steam rolled, run over, and trampled by Chargers running back Ryan Matthews (above) in the fourth quarter. Arrington clearly sustained some type of concussion, because his arms became crocodile stiff after the collision. It’s never a good look when your 190 pound cornerback looks they just got thawed out after a bio-freeze on the field.
All I know is that the Patriots “not so great looking” secondary can’t afford to lose depth. Cutting Meriweather and Butler were solid off season moves, but that left the Pats thin at defensive backs. They can’t afford having corners literally getting folded in half on the field. Arrington isn’t the best corner, but he also isn’t the worst. Losing him for 3-4 games could be a larger issue than anticipated.
