This Wakefield 200 win thing is hilarious/depressing

Another start, another missed opportunity for Wake. This one though, might have been the most painful. Like being “blue balled” on prom night, Wakefield left the game with the lead in hopes of finally capturing that friggin’ 200th win. And low and behold, Daniel Bard lets up a cool 5 runs and the lead, thus eliminating any chance of Wake getting the win. But allegedly, Wake didn’t give a shit and handled the situation like the old pro he is.

Wakefield has not won since July 24 against Seattle, a span of seven appearances. Bard said the knuckleballer made sure he didn’t hang his head after coughing up the lead.

“When I got in the clubhouse, he was the first guy to come up and shake my hand, pat me on the back,” Bard said. “He knows how hard I’m trying. To be that close to getting out of it with the lead intact makes it even tougher. We’re trying for him. He did his job today and I didn’t do mine.”

So who knows, maybe Wake won’t get to 200 wins. It would be hilarious, but at the same time it would be devastating.

I have a co-worker that thinks they should stop advertising the 200 win thing but in reality they can’t. It’s still a big milestone no matter how long it takes him to reach it. They don’t stop promoting the quest for 500 homeruns when the guy has taken 10 games to hit the last one.

Wake will get there, he’s pitched well enough to win in a number of recent games..its not like he’s going out there and getting hit all over the park every night.
