ESPN Boston – Sergio Garcia is typically more adept at hitting a golf ball with a titanium club than kicking a soccer ball with his preferred left foot. But on Wednesday morning, the PGA golf pro put down his clubs and paid a visit to the Gillette Stadium grounds for an impromptu trial with the Revolution in advance of this weekend’s Deutsche Bank Championship (Sept. 2-5) at TPC Boston in Norton, Mass.
Two of the biggest disappointments in sports joined forces Wednesday as Sergio Garcia and our very own Major League Soccer team, the New England Revolution, kicked around the good old soccer ball. For those of you who don’t like golf or pay attention to it often, Sergio is one of the greatest disappointments the sport has seen in the last ten years. Garcia was supposed to be the guy up Tiger’s ass in the standings each week, or at least in every major, but he never amounted to the hype. Major League Soccer is very similar in some ways, never gaining the fan base of the other major sports and being absolutely crushed by other leagues all over the world. Here’s to two disappointments… Good luck to you both!
