ESPN Boston – Red Sox outfielder J.D. Drew has returned to Boston and is scheduled to take batting practice Thursday at Fenway Park with the club’s BP pitcher Matt Noone. Drew, who has been on the disabled list with an impingement in his left shoulder, is set to begin a four-game minor-league rehab assignment Friday with Single-A Lowell. He’ll play two games with the Spinners before working out at Fenway on Sunday. He’ll have Monday off, then play two games with Triple-A Pawtucket on Tuesday and Wednesday.
An impingement in his left shoulder… more like a waste of a roster spot. It looks like J.D. will be back just in time for the roster expansions so the Sox wont have to send down any of the well deserved players. Drew has been absolutely terrible in his 77 games this season posting a miserable .219 average and sorry four home runs. I sort of feel bad since Drew is only a few months away from 36 and his career looks like it should be over, but for the amount of money he has made and not earned is insane. Well J.D., congrats on coming back and for stealing tons of money from the Red Sox.
