NESN – “I consider myself in that class and Tom Brady is a great quarterback, he’s a great player and what you’ve seen with him is he’s gotten better every year, and he started off winning championships and I think he’s a better quarterback now than what he was, in all honesty, when he was winning those championships,” Manning said, according to ESPN.com.
Manning went on to say that he hopes to accomplish what Brady has in terms of continuing to get better. He said that he hopes the next seven years of his career are his best.
It’s amazing what a classic 25 interception season can do for a QB these days. Yes, that’s correct. Eli Manning threw 25 interceptions last year for the 2010 regular season. But that’s almost as good as Tom Brady’s MVP season last year….I guess.
Look, the Manning brothers have to come to a realization sooner or later. With Peyton getting his neck operated on and screwed back together and Eli being…well, Eli, there is a very good possibility either Manning won’t win another Superbowl. Although Eli is young, and the Giants do self implode almost every Sunday, there is no chance he can get to the level of Brady. He had his one day/season (I’m not going to say that he beat the Patriots, because the Patriots choked, there is a difference).
So, Eli comparing himself to Brady is the closest he will be to greatness probably for the rest of his career. Because lets not kid ourselves Eli, you won a Superbowl one year. Trent Dilfer for god-sake won it one year too. One trick ponies in the NFL are a dime a dozen, so just pack it in like every other mediocre quarterback in this league and can it.
